HEALTHY HABITS

RETHINK AND REIMAGINE WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT RESILIENCE.
LEAD WITH YOUR BRAIN – THE CRISIS ATHLETE™ WAY.
Mindfulness
MINDFULNESS is simply… NOTICING WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. Recent brain studies find it to be a key element in stress reduction, with direct impacts on happiness and overall well-being. Mounting scientific evidence shows mindfulness may even be the “magic bullet” for overall preventive health if there is one.
SLEEp
Our brains need time to process daily. TOO LITTLE SLEEP (even less than 7 hours) can limit cognitive resources. But, SLEEPING TOO MUCH (even 8.5 hours) can be just as bad as too little. Keep in mind, there is a ‘SLEEP CURVE’. The amount of sleep YOU need is not necessarily what someone else needs.
CREATIVITY
Studies find that engaging in creative activities reduces cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and improves mental health and resiliency. Our brains are hardwired for novelty, and introducing even small activities, stimulates dopamine release (the “feel good” hormone). Creativity distracts the mind from feelings of stress and anxiety.
FUEL YOUR BRAIN
EAT HEALTHY. Yes. Really. This is critical. We often see (and have ourselves consumed) sugary snacks, the three-decade-shelf-life processed foods, and enough coffee to fill swimming pools in our stints in operations centers in the countless crises we have responded to. But why is this so important, and WHY NOW? Your brain needs it.
exercise
We all know that exercise is good for us. We also know stress can destroy brain cells, but exercise has the ability to increase neuroprotective chemicals in your brain and stimulate the growth of new brain cells. Take a 5-minute walk outside. It will release chemicals that protect your brain and improve your focus.
